Why I love Elijah's daycare
This morning it took a while for us to get from the car to the daycare door. Now that the weather is nicer I'm not carrying Elijah. I'm letting him walk. Oh the things he has to observe on the walk into the house. Who knows? The snow might actually be different two feet from where he is currently standing. He should probably study that as well.
We got in this morning to a cheerful "good morning" from Taunte, his daycare lady. The other two kids were already there eagerly waiting for him to come play with them. The one closest to his age came running over and started taking the velcro off his boots to help him get undressed a little bit faster. Elijah beamed as the three of us took off his winter wear.
I left for work with a smile on my face because I feel good about where Elijah spends his days. Here's why:
1. Taunte celebrates my son. When he does something new or discovers something she is just as excited to tell me as I am to hear it.
2. She genuinely cares for his well-being. Every time he has been sick she has given him cuddles and love.
3. He has friends. It's so cute to see him running off with the other kids to play together and share together. They're all older than him and it's kind of neat how they motivate him to do new things that they can already do. They were so excited when he started walking.
4. He gets exposed to things that I might not think about. They "made" a snowman before Christmas that had a styrofoam head with cotton batting for the body. The hat was a plastic apple sauce container that ended up coming unglued. He has spent hours putting that hat on the snowman laughing every time it comes tumbling off.
5. I get to spend time each day using my gifts and abilities doing things that I love. Then I get to come home to my favorite boy in the world and enjoy all his discoveries. (Like tonight - all through super he kept saying "Oh oh". Very cute.)
I am thankful that God answered our prayers and found us a good daycare, close to home, that we can see Elijah thriving at. I've still got a smile on my face.

Life after being sick
Looks like life is getting back to "normal"(whatever that is). It appears as though we have all gotten over the flu and now are simply battling the regular winter colds that one can come to expect when you live in Manitoba.
Here's some pictures from the last week:
The laundry helper - loves to also unfold the clothes that have already been folded.
What is it about kids putting things around their necks? That happens to be my trouser sock that he's so nicely stretching.
He has an obsession about the stairs. He loves to climb them and apparently sometimes even just lounge on them.
Kids CBC - Animal Mechanical. Daily at 7:30. The unfortunate thing is that the theme song is one of those annoying ones that doesn't get out of your head.
Getting into sports - mixing his sports up a bit but at least he's trying.

The sick house
Elijah got the flu on Thursday night and by Saturday morning we were all gone. I've lost count on the number of times that we've had to wash his bedding. There is a general smell of sickness in the house and if it wasn't the middle of a Manitoba winter I'd open the windows to air the place out.
Everyone seems to be feeling a little better this morning so that's a good thing. Perhaps we can have a nice family day together that remains puke-free.

A day off
I took the day off work today. Elijah and I headed to the mall. First of all let me tell you how nice it is to have command start. We got it a few weeks back and I will admit that I had missed it since we got rid of our old car. So we headed to the mall in our warm car.
We had a productive trip to the mall. Exchanged a pair of winter boots for Elijah that broke after he'd only worn them a few times. Got a new top for work. Dropped off my old glasses at Lenscrafters so that someone else can benefit from my lack of vision. Bought a photo album to put pictures of Elijah in.
As we strolled through the mall I was loving being there with Elijah. I really enjoyed being at home with him last year and while I love being back at work, it's nice to have these days. He happily ate his Cherrios and then his grapes and watched the people around us. I love watching him discover the world.
And now he is sleeping and I am going to read a book. Now that's what I call a good day off.

Let it snow
We got some serious snow today. Thankfully it was nice enough for Elijah to be able to play outside. It was the first time that he actually played with the snow and enjoyed it. He kept knocking the snow down from the nice edges that daddy made with the snowblower.
Please note: The house behind Elijah is for sale and we would gladly encourage anyone to purchase it if only to remove that vehicle. I don't actually think it runs. It's sat there for all four years that we've lived here.
