Elijah's journey into his Mennonite heritage

OK - it's not really so much a journey as a trip to the Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach.

The trip to the one room classroom was a real hit. He kept crawling in and out of the seats of the desks.

A trip to the museum is not a trip to the museum without a windmill shot.

Trying to feed the goats.

More success feeding the horses.

Petting zoo joy.

Elijah's latest adventures

Elijah's had all sorts of adventures the past week.

He got to pick some pretty "flowers".

He got icecream treats from the neighbours.

He raced with daddy on the racetrack.

He drove with Grandpa on the bus.

He also got to sit behind the wheel of the school bus on his own.

No, I was not baking a Delissio pizza

... I simply put Oil of Olay on my face.

Let me explain. A few weeks ago I noticed that my face was getting really dry. Drier than it had ever been. Chalk another one up to being pregnant. So I went to the store and bought a new moisturizer. Now I realize that as an intelligent person I would have listened to the advise that was likely on the packaging which telling me to do a spot test prior to using the new product. But let's admit it, who actually does that?

So I put my new Oil of Olay on my face. I found that the redness in my face was increasing but figured that my face must be so dry that I should probably use MORE. When I began to realize that the burning sensation on my face was only where I had used the lotion, it occurred to me that perhaps I was allergic to this wonderful new facial cream.

So I did what any wise person would. Slathered on Solarcane because it says that it's for burns. And you know what they say, if a little is good, more must be better.

For those that don't know. Solarcane has alcohol in it. Not exactly super moisturizing.

And that is how I came to look like the guy from the Delissio Pizza commercials that has been staring at the pizza baking in the oven. Only mine was on my cheeks and chin.

I'd love to say that I learnt my lesson but I'd be lying. When the pharmacist gave me a new lotion to fix this problem I went home and slathered in on my face. Once again, no patch test. Only this time things worked out for me and I am glad to say I only look like I was out in the sun on a fine spring day.

Which I'm also glad to say today that I was.

Elijah's latest words

In no particular order, here is a brief listing of some of Elijah's latest words:

No - Used in any context. Don't not necessary mean a negative response to a question. It pretty much covers all areas of conversation.

Car - Used to describe cars and vans

Bus - Used to describe all vehicles bigger than a van.

Mo-ah - Used to indicate he would like more of something. The second syllable is said with a higher tone.

Ball - Used to describe balls, or any round object. Can spot a ball from a mile off.

Dog - Said when he hears a dog bark.

Eyes, ear, nose - Said as he points to the appropriate body part

Plane - Spots them anywhere in the sky. He'll hear one and go looking for it.

And, as you heard in the recent video, mom and dad - Used to describe his parents. If one of us isn't home he will pick up the shoe of the other person and wander the house saying mom or dad. (This just tells you how brilliant he is - He actually picks up the right persons shoe.)

The thing that amazes me is the amount of stuff that he understands. Ask him if he wants yogurt and he heads straight for the fridge. Offer a bath and the toys are already in the tub. Suggest that we wash the dishes and the chair is being dragged to the sink.

So there's my mommy bragging for the night.

Mom & Dad

Sorry that the attached video is a little long.
